Environmental Policy
We have always recognized our responsibility to protect the environment. Therefore, Lorraine Press conducts its operations in an environmentally responsible manner. We take positive steps to prevent any negative impact on the world around us.

As a company, we fully comply with or exceed all applicable safety and environmental laws and regulations, whether they are local, state, or federal. Further, we routinely monitor our compliance and make regular assessments to ensure continuing improvement in all areas of conservation, reuse, and recycling.

With our proactive strategies, we have been able to consistently and constantly comply with all legal standards. As a result of our efforts, Lorraine Press has been able to lower the VOC count each year from our plant. Also, we continually explore new ways to minimize waste byproducts associated with our processes.

Our Policies on:
Printing Recycling Waste Streams Filtration
trees
Printing: We strive to keep our printing processes as “green” as possible. Our inks are vegetable-based, and we print without the use of alcohol in the fountain solutions of our presses. Alcohol is a traditional wetting agent in printing, but we have eliminated it because it releases harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air.

For our aqueous coating towers in our Komori presses, we have implemented the use of water-based coating which is more environmentally friendly. Traditional coatings release large amounts of harmful VOCs into the air.

As more efficient equipment becomes available, we invest in it. Through our upgrades, we have significantly cut the amount of press solvent used by our company.

As we begin a job, we reuse “waste sheets” to come up to color. This minimizes the amount of paper used, thereby saving paper and trees.

Recycling: As new recycling programs become available, we join up. We now recycle corrugated cardboard, film, plates, paper, fluorescent bulbs, packing material, aluminum cans, and pallets.

Waste Streams: Lorraine Press is concerned about our environmental footprint and how our operations can affect the world downstream from us.

Our press wash and excess ink are sent away to be used in a fuel-blending process to roast cement. The ash from this process is then used in road base.

Our employees follow proper procedures for storage, marking, transporting, inspecting and documenting hazardous waste.

All manifests, LDRs, drum inspection records, permits, and procedures are available for inspection.

Filtration: Lorraine Press has implemented various filtration systems to clean the air, water, and electric power.
